Your computer meets the minimum hardware requirements necessary to run Vista and is therefore classed as a Vista Capable machine. Before completing your upgrade there are a number of steps you should carry out so the process runs smoothly.
- Backup your important data to disk so none is lost during the upgrade. This includes emails, pictures and documents.
- Scan your system using the Vista Upgrade Advisor utility from Microsoft. This tool reports any possible issues you may encounter and offer solutions. For example any incompatible software or drivers that may prevent the installation of Vista.
After you have installed Vista it is important you check for any missing drivers that prevent your computer from functioning correctly. This can be easily done by using the following sources:
- Windows Update - there is currently support for approximately 1.2 million devices through the drivers already integrated into Windows Vista and the Windows Update site. Start by running Windows Update (click start, type update in the search box, click Windows Update in the list of results).
- The TechGuys website - if you are still missing any drivers after Windows Update you can download them from the bottom section of this page.
- The peripheral manufacturers website - it is recommended that you try your peripheral equipment to see if it is working as expected after the upgrade and update the software only if your device isn't working as expected. For example you may need to download a Vista printer driver from the manufacturers website to be able to print from Windows Vista.
